Ahmed Ajum Piperdy (c. 1870 – c. 1931) was a notable figure within the Surat diaspora in Mauritius during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Born in Rander, near Surat in the Bombay Presidency of India, his paternal lineage was deeply rooted in the region; he was the son of Ajum Goolam Hossen, the grandson of Goolam Hossen, and the great-grandson of Issop Piperdy of Rander. Piperdy immigrated to Mauritius in 1883.
In 1891, Piperdy entered the commercial sector by joining his father's company, Ajum Goolam Hossen. He remained an active partner in the family business until the company was dissolved in 1901.
Beyond his commercial pursuits, Piperdy was actively involved in local governance. He served as a member of the Municipal Council of Port Louis, representing Ward 2 from 1909 to approximately 1915. Civic involvement was a shared family pursuit; his brother, Cassim Ajum Piperdy, who was born in Mauritius, also held a role in the civic administration of Port Louis.
Piperdy was married to Mariam Batasi. He remained in Mauritius for the rest of his life, passing away in Port Louis in 1931.

Ahmed Piperdy was my great grandfather on my mother's side. I would love to learn more about him and my great grandmother. Thank you for this article. I guess it means we are related.
